Zonta graduated from University of Pavia in 1991, with a thesis, under the supervision of Bruno Chiesa, on the medieval Hebrew translations of two influential works by Alfarabi (subsequently published in 1994). His many studies, based mainly on unpublished manuscripts, dealt with the fate of Greek philosophical texts among Muslims and Jews and focused on the translation and transmission of Greek philosophical and scientific teachings from Arabic and Latin into Hebrew. Zonta, associate professor of the history of Jewish philosophy at the Sapienza University of Rome, was one of the leading historians of medieval Hebrew philosophy of our generation.
